Have you ever stopped to consider what your company truly stands for?When we sat down to define our core values at Allegiance Title, my team was adamant about one in particular: integrity.I said integrity should be a baseline, not a value. You can’t be a title company without integrity.But they insisted on documenting our commitment to this value. To our team, it was about doing the right thing. Even if we don’t get the business. Even if we have to give someone bad news. Even if it creates more work.It was important to them that they could trust in that integrity from the top down.I used to have customers come in and say: “Dawn, I’m bringing you this challenging transaction because I know you will do it right.”And sometimes I would just want to say: “Sure, but will you give me some of your easy ones for once?” No such luck!Hard as it was at times, building our reputation for doing the right thing would pay off.When I restarted my business in 2009, many title underwriters had recently dropped title agentswho didn’t always do it right, who skipped corners. But as soon as I opened my doors, those same underwriters were eager to work with us. In fact, 10 underwriters wanted to partner with us without even requiring a minimum volume of business. That spoke volumes to the integrity lived out by my team.I'm so proud of my team for insisting on integrity as a core value. Nicole Campbell AFSB and I did not really know whether to think this was a significant achievement or how to really feel about being #29 but we are definitely ok with it! My old ego would not feel much pride and set a goal to be number one, but we are completely okay just doing what we need to do to help contractors and agents get surety bonds no matter where we fall in the rankings. We have a great team beside us and have some costly lessons learned behind us to help carry us forward. While we aren't setting infinite growth model goals to be #1, we are definitely setting up for growth over the next couple of years.We are excited to say Parrot's retail side is just getting traction in federal contracting and targeting our assistance toward new/emerging and large prime SDVOSB's. We are hiring in the next few months for someone to help expand our presence in this sector and have built partnerships for SBA Bonding; Funds Administration; Cash Flow/Working Capital Lending; and discounted bookkeeping, accounting, and fractional CFO services for our clients to boost their bondability early on. (Let me know if you know anybody that might be a good fit for our remote position geographically located in the DMV, North Florida, Dayton to Huntsville, San Antonio, San Diego areas with a military tie and business degree or insurance/surety experience.)A big boost to our growth in 2023 happened as we began managing an underwriting program for David Campbell who is writing standard and nonstandard bonds up to $3MM on A-Rated paper with significant appetite for long tail, reclamation, closure / post-closure, subdivision, right-of-way, and principals without appropriate levels of financial preparation but with appropriate net worth to bond size. Many corporate policies and reinsurance treaties block the ability for standard carriers to write these types of bonds and bring Parrot the capability to address the full width of the surety market for our agents and brokers we work with. We are also hiring an experienced surety/insurance professional later this year to drive more agency relationships.
